SOMETHINGGOOD will have a massive Songs of the Week update next week using a bunch of news tracks released in the new year. This week, however, I’m (quickly) highlighting the albums I’m most excited for in the opening months of 2019 – including the latest from Deerhunter, Mike Krol and girlpool.

Not featured – but close to my heart – is the forthcoming LP from Massachusetts indie band And the Kids, When This Life is Over, due out February 22 (lead single “Champagne Ladies” was featured here on November 29).

Also worth mentioning is the dazzling debut LP from Toronto dream pop outfit Tallies, which is the first great album of 2019 IMO. Lead single “Mother” was a Song of the Week in October.

“I Wonder” by Mike Krol

Merge Records

Everything I’ve heard from Mike Krol‘s latest is outstanding, including new single “I Wonder.” Power Chords comes out January 25.

“Plains” by Deerhunter

4AD

Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared, the latest from Deerhunter, comes out January 18. The indie veterans shared the track “Plains” a few days ago.

“What Chaos Is Imaginary” by girlpool

ANTI- Records

girlpool shared the title track to their third LP — What Chaos Is Imaginary — ahead of its February 1 release date. The song is as lovely as the album cover.
