I listen to as much new music as possible, but sometimes a really special record simply slips through the cracks. That’s what happened with Out Like Lambs‘ genre-bending LP Fingers Crossed, which came out in September 2017 but didn’t land on my radar until last week.

Since then, I’ve been transfixed by the record’s brilliant, jazz-inspired and experimental sound (think Television, but with a folksy swing instead of New York swagger). It’s brilliant, and makes full use of the band’s expansive human resources — with six band members and 11 contributors credited on Fingers Crossed.

“Game On,” our Song of the Day, is one of the record’s stand-out tracks.
