Xenoula is the musical alter-ego of experimental pop artist Romy Xeno, whose debut LP — the eponymous Xenoula — comes out November 24 via New Weird World/Domino. The album marks Xeno’s arrival as an intriguing new talent with a unique sound that echoes her cross-hemispheric upbringing.
Xeno was born and raised in South Africa, where she was influenced by elemental songs of nearby villagers and the tranquil rhythms of nature. At age 16, Xeno moved to the UK — and the ensuing culture shock drove her to make music as a way of communicating her complicated feelings.
“Caramello,” the second single from Xenoula, is our Song of the Day.
