Multi-instrumentalist Luke Marzec is an emerging artist you need to hear with a voice you won’t soon forget. Today’s featured track — “When We First Met” — is a preview of Marzec’s forthcoming debut EP Chances, which he recorded earlier this year after dropping out of London’s Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
“The whole institution was suffocating,” Marzec explained in a type-written press statement. He went on to rattle off his impressive musical resume, as well as provide some insight on what’s driving his solo career:
“The real start of my musical journey begins aged 7 on the violin. Many years of formal musical education followed, as well as playing in bands as a vocalist, on keys, bass and saxophone, busking and gigging to make money, doing odd jobs in between just to get by. Unfortunately, nearly all the music I recorded has never seen the light of day. Musical differences hurt many dear relationships. As a result, I needed to begin working solo.”
Chances comes out in the November. On it, London-based Marzec limited himself to an instrumental core of upright piano, drums, bass, synth, saxophone and voice — while writing, playing, producing and recording everything on his own. Listen to “When We First Met” below.
