Quiet Slang -- We Were Babies & We Were Dirtbags

“Thirteen (Quiet Slang)” by Quiet Slang

Beach Slang‘s James Alex has a lovely new rendition of the timeless Big Star ballad “Thirteen” — so lovely, in fact, it’s the first cover to earn a SOMETHINGGOOD Song of the Day nod. It comes from the artist’s forthcoming four-track EP We Were Babies & We Were Dirtbags, which he’s releasing October 20 under the moniker Quiet Slang.

Consisting of cello, piano and strings, We Were Babies & We Were Dirtbags is a decidedly more intimate effort compared to Alex’s work as Beach Slang. Joining the Big Star track — officially titled “Thirteen (Quiet Slang)” — on the record is a cover of The Replacement’s “Androgynous,” plus re-workings of two Beach Slang songs.
