Shilpa Ray is back and fierce as ever with a brand-new album called Door Girl, released September 22 via Northern Spy Records.

My first experience with the Brooklyn-based artist was in 2011, when — performing as Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers — she tore the roof off D.C.’s Black Cat nightclub opening for experimental rock outfit Man Man. Door Girl shows she’s neither mellowed nor slowed down since then. In fact, the majority of its songs would have fit perfectly on that raucous, six-year-old setlist .

Today’s feature song is one of my favorites from Door Girl, the meta “Shilpa Ray’s Got a Heart Full of Dirt.” Listen below.
