Earlier this month, singer-songwriter Jen Cloher released her latest LP — a brutally-honest, self-titled exploration of love, music and the Melbourne, Australia native’s home country. Of the record, Cloher said:  “It’s a classic rock album, recorded live in one room with minimal overdubs… I’m not too good at going into descriptive language around my own music but I suppose it is intimate without ever feeling too precious.”

“Strong Woman” is a crackling album cut on which Cloher looks back at a difficult and confusing childhood, and pays tribute to the strong woman who showed her the way forward: Cloher’s late mother, whom she casts as a Maori warrior.
