Considering the tragic events that unfolded this weekend in Charlottesville (RIP Heather Heyer), we wanted to go with something somewhat more uplifting as today’s featured song. “The Possibility,” a bouncy punk track from Brooklyn-based Worriers’ upcoming LP Survival Pop (September 29), fits the bill.
According to singer/guitarist Lauren Denitzio, Worriers’ “The Possibility” responds to the “overly romanticized version of New Jersey that reflects their actual experience growing up queer in the Garden State.” But the song is no pity party — rather, it’s an energetic rallying cry. Denitzio provided further insight on the SideOneDummy Records website:
“This song is for teenage me, who needed a love song that wasn’t just about riding around town with your sweetheart down the shore … I wrote the majority of the songs on this record thinking about what kinds of songs past versions of myself would’ve needed or been listening to at different points in my life.”
