Ratboys’ “Elvis Is in the Freezer” is remarkable. A folksy cut from the Chicago band’s recent release GN, it recounts a universally-heartbreaking situation — saying goodbye to a beloved pet — with incredible tenderness. The song is packed with emotions both sad and sweet, no doubt mirroring the jumbled mental state of our narrator — at one point erupting into a guitar-led frenzy before quickly collecting itself and regaining a sense of calm.

“Elvis Is in the Freezer” also falls into the category of great songs without a chorus, which is probably for the best — I’m having a hard enough time getting this song out of my head as it is. Listen below, and be sure to check out the official video — which is perfect.
